It’s obvious that you have heard of the Ignite business, the marketing arm for Stream Energy, from a number of sources. The most recognized way we hear about companies like Ignite is at the ever-so-fun hotel meeting. You probably got the phone call from a friend, who asked you to do them a big favor and come check out a ‘super cool’ business opportunity. Wanting to appease your friend you decide to attend the meeting and are greeted with a warm welcome, friendly people and you notice that the general tone of the meeting is very professional. The presenters rocks the house and does a phenomenal job. You begin to believe this business can work for you and think about all the money you will be making. But suddenly, your dreams of financial freedom, speed boats and beach getaways are quickly interrupted when the presenters says it will cost $299 to get started you’ll have to pay $24.95 a month for your website.
Now, the Ignite business, offered by Stream Energy is great – filled with enthusiastic people with the best of intentions and some people who even want to genuinely help you succeed. But you’ll want to look much deeper than the smiling faces, eloquent speaking, designer suits and remarkable income claims. What you are not told at the hotel ‘pep rallies’ is that the majority of associates involved in the Ignite business opportunity are not making money. Sure, for the past 5 years Ignite has been a dominant player in deregulated energy and is even on pace to becoming a billion dollar company, but none of that means anything if most people who join lose money. For some odd reason, this point never gets addressed during the meetings. You’ll notice that a major emphasis is placed on the top producer’s income checks. This guy is earning $15,000 a month! This girl is earning $20,000 a month! Instead of paying attention to the gigantic income claim, examine further and see how many people aren’t making money.
Around October, 2011, the Ignite business made it’s way to the PECO utility territory, around Philadelphia and the outer suburbs. There were meetings being conducted everywhere. Because I live in this area I have heard many stories from some of my friends, relatives and even my neighbor’s dad who lost money with Ignite. They all attended the meetings, got excited, but couldn’t seem to get enough people excited about handing over $299! I can understand why. It’s simply a matter of value. It would seem Ignite’s core service is to offer consumers a lower rate on an existing service (electricity). There should be no reason then, (other than to create more revenue for the company) that Ignite should be charging a fee so people can go out into the marketplace and acquire more customers for the company. Now if Ignite was offering some kind of tangible, valuable product, you could certainly see the logic in charging a fee.
Another major reason why fee based programs like the Ignite business don’t work out for the majority is because of recruiting. Most of the fast-start bonuses, bonus pools, etc. stem directly from the associates ability to recruit other associates, not acquire customers. Associates who are making decent income are consistently focused on recruiting new people and having them do the same. Essentially this is just passing money around the company. Bottom line, the core revenue stream for Stream Energy’s Ignite business should be from customers.
How It Should Be
By building a profitable organization in deregulated energy, and not having a single representative lose money, I have had the privilege of finding out first hand what works and doesn’t work. Here are a few questions I think you’ll appreciate:
- What if there was an energy business opportunity available, offered in the same areas as Ignite, that required no upfront or monthly fees?
- What if they had competitive rates and no risk for your customers?
- What if you got paid $300 on your first 10 customers?
- What if everyone of your customers could also refer people and if they did, both of you would be compensated?
- What if there was a company that would never cut you out of compensation, even if there were multiple top producers in your organization?
- And what if you just KNEW this would be a billion dollar company, would you be interested?
Those are just a few questions I can ask you because they are precisely what our company offers. If a company can answer yes to all these questions, you truly are looking at the best energy business opportunity. Additionally, you will never have to worry about hurting someone you knew financially or run the risk of damaging one of your precious relationships. There is a right way to earn income through deregulated energy and a wrong way. Unfortunately for most people who join the Ignite business they have to find this out the hard way.
