If I had a nickel for all the different opinions I have heard about network marketing I would be retired already! Here I want to provide you with an easy to understand definition of network marketing and show you how to actually make it work for you.
Network marketing is a business model used to sell products and services for a much cheaper rate. Most of the middle men are eliminated and the extra money saved on distribution goes towards compensating company members. You can become a customer of a network marketing company and purchase unique products that will be delivered straight to your home or you can enroll as a distributor and earn commissions.
The people who sponsored you, or are ‘above’ you, are considered your upline. The people you sponsor, or are ‘below’ you, are called your downline. Whether the people are above or below you it is still a team environment. Your team is one of the catalysts to you having success. This encourages win-win situations for distributors and the company.
Distributors can get paid two ways. They get paid by new customers who pay for the product or service and by the new distributors they sponsor. Compensation plans vary from company to company and you should consider this before joining. Network marketing gives almost anyone that ability to start their own business and is an excellent way to create a passive income.
So then why does this type of business get such a bad reputation?
Whenever someone hears the the terms network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) they immediately think of words like scam, pyramid or ponzi scheme. None of these offensive terms are even slightly accurate. People say that if you join a network marketing company then you are just below someone else and making them rich. If you really think about it, that’s EXACTLY what every other business in the world is like. People who work for a large corporation are making people at the top wealthy. This type of business model, though, just happens to give anyone the opportunity to make as much money as they want and not be trapped by a glass ceiling or salary cap.
But don’t you have to get in at the top to earn a lot in network marketing?
Absolutely not! You will hear people say that a company is in pre-launch, it’s a ‘ground floor’ opportunity or that if you get in now, you will be rich. Just because you did not get into a company when it first launched does not mean you will not have the chance to earn a lot of money. The greatest thing about this type of business is that the people at the bottom have the SAME opportunity as the people at the top to earn as much money as they want. It just takes time and working with the right company.
Why such a high failure rate?
This is another reason why network marketing gets such a bad rap. Most people who join (over 90%) will never earn more than $1,000 per month and will usually quit before they ever see any progress. The problem with most companies is that the training is inadequate and does not teach new distributors the necessary skills to succeed. These skills include lead generation, marketing, selling and sponsoring. The distributors who take the time to learn these new skills and apply them on a regular basis, while actually setting long term goals with a company, will experience massive success. Most people stick around in a company for about 2 months, don’t see any results and end up quitting while bashing the industry as a whole.
In order to succeed in any company, no matter what product or service they sell, you have to do a few things. You have to seek out a mentor, preferably someone in your upline that you can follow. You then have to learn the skills mentioned above. This industry is all about networking and marketing. Build relationships with people, show them how you can help them. You have to be able to market your products and services. You can’t just order your product, have them sit in your garage and then expect people to start buying. There are thousands of people who want what your company offers, it just a matter of you letting them know it’s available.
The people who stick it out, invest in themselves and take consistent action are the ones that earn multiple 5,6 and even 7 figure monthly incomes from network marketing. Choose a company with a product you can fully support, follow the leader and go earn as much money as you want. You can’t rely on the government or social security anymore. Create your own financial destiny.
When I first got started in network marketing I struggled quite a bit. You see, I was good at talking to people and networking, but lacked in marketing skills. It wasn’t until I met some people who were successful in their own businesses and also knew how to market, that I finally experienced my break-through.
After working with the right people, mastering a few skills and never quitting, I now am able to earn a passive income every month. This industry doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to join the right team and follow the leader.
